Jeans have been a closet staple for as far back as we can remember, since maybe even the dawn of mankind (not really, but it seems that way!). They’re the most practical, easily styled item of clothing in our wardrobes, year round. Admit it, most of us already basically live in our favorite pair of jeans! Well, we think it’s time to give the trusted jeans some rest, break the monotony and spruce up our summer style while doing it.
Here are 3 different ways you can wear your denim this season!
The Denim Shirt – The denim shirt is a classic, versatile wardrobe staple that can be worn with a variety of bottoms. As a casual piece, the denim shirt is usually used to create casual yet ultra chic outfits or to make structured pieces look more relaxed. As part of an ensemble, denim shirts can convey both rough-and-tumble grittiness and refined, savvy artistry. The denim button-down is now reinvented for modern trends, providing the perfect juxtaposition to this season’s floral dresses and frilly skirts. Don’t be afraid to wear denim with denim, as long as the washes are different. To stay conservative and put-together for class or work, throw an on-trend tuxedo jacket over your shirt. Still want to look girly? Jean tops look great with soft maxi and floral skirts. For a night out with friends, you can easily dress up your shirt with a smart blazer or dress it down with a crazy pair of leggings. You probably already have at least two (or 20) pairs of jeans, but consider your next wardrobe investment to be the perfect denim shirt. This is one piece in your closet that not only will never go out of style, but it will get even better with wear!
The Denim Skirt – Denim skirts are back in style in a big way. We love this classic wardrobe staple for its Americana appeal. It’s also a versatile wardrobe separate — you can wear it easily on weekends, as a cute date outfit, or even pair it with tailored separates and great accessories to wear to the office. You can keep it casual or even dress it up a little, but either way, it’s all about the accessories. Treat it as a basic staple — like classic blue jeans — and you can get a lot of mileage out of it, all while showing a lot more leg than you would with jeans. You can also choose from a variety of styles, from a longer, more modest denim skirt to an acid washed, ripped skirt for a grunge aesthetic.
The Denim Dungarees – Attention all 90s fashion fans – dungarees are back. From Alexa Chung and Pixie Lott, to on the street and the catwalks at London Fashion Week, this childhood staple has been resurrected in multiple styles for the new season, in classic stone-wash denim and cute printed pinafore dresses. Dungarees in a darker wash are flattering and add a grungy edge, while a pair in black worn with a loose-fitting white shirt is all you need for a night about town.

Cara Delevingne did chic and playful off-duty model dressing at Paris Fashion Week in this baby pink pair of short dungarees.

Black dungarees are the new red carpet staple. Slightly smarter than their blue denim counterparts, Olivia Palermo proves that all they need is a simple white loose-fit shirt and killer accessories to take them from day-to-night in a New York minute.

Oh, yes. You know it’s summer when the stars start wearing short dungarees. We can’t get enough of Alessandra Ambrosio’s cute pinstriped pair.
