2014 had its share of movies and shows that were memorable and re-watch worthy. So, as the year comes to a close, we take a look back at all the movies and TV series that were the most popular and made us fall in love with them.
Guardians of the Galaxy
The comics may not have been that popular, but the movie won the hearts of millions. With its witty heroes and funny dialogues, there was nothing in this movie that wasn’t loved. Also, ROCKET!
X-Men: Days of Future Past
The latest X-Men movie caused excitement yet again and the show was stolen entirely by Jennifer Lawrence, who played the role of Mystique incredibly well.
The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies
The LOTR fandom sobbed all over the world as they watched the final installment of the Middle Earth movies. It had so much heart and spirit that it was full to the brim. Oh, emotions!
The Interview
This movie caused tremors across the world because of its bold decision to portray North Korea’s infamous dictator as one of the characters. It’s a light-hearted comedy that’s now the stuff of legends.
Exodus: Gods and Kings
Talking of legends, this is one that has been adapted repeatedly. The story of Moses rescuing the Jews from slavery from under Pharaoh Ramesses’ rule is a classic. And Christian Bale makes an amazing Moses, don’t you think?
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1
Jennifer Lawrence reprises her role as the fierce Katniss Everdeen in the second-last part of The Hunger Games series. The movie was both terrible at times and moving at others. And seeing Peeta like that, broke our hearts! *sniff*
Interstellar
Interstellar is a gold mine for Science Fiction nerds – the story of a few people on a brave quest to rescue mankind from extinction. Classic end-of-the-world plot, eh?
Divergent
Divergent is the first movie adaptation of the trilogy by Veronica Roth. Shailene Woodley was praise-worthy for her impressive performance and the story was excitingly fast-paced.
The Theory of Everything
This movie has been adapted from the memoirs of Jane Wilde Hawking, the famous physicist Stephen Hawking’s ex-wife. It follows the story of their relationship and his scientific success.
Boyhood
Boyhood is a simple coming-of-age age tale shot beautifully over the span of 12 years so you would actually see the actors growing up in front of you. Talk about a long movie.
Game of Thrones
Season 4 was as shocking and impactful as ever – Peter Dinklage gave his finest performance yet, Joffrey lost his life and Oberyn Martell had a headache. But we surely all miss the evil little King.
The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead remained at the top with the highest ratings and made us swear at the screen and throw things around in frustration. WHY BETH??? *Lies down and cries*
Jane the Virgin
This is a delightful new TV series with a 23 year old virgin who gets artificially inseminated by mistake, and hilarity ensues.
The Flash
DC has given us a new hot show to follow. Barry Allen is smart, cute, nice and a superhero. The story is engaging and the characters are untrustworthy – perfect recipe for a good show.
Hasee Toh Phasee
Karan Johar has a knack for making adorable romantic comedies. Parineeti is unfathomably cute and Siddharth plays a confused yet sweet guy – a couple made for each other.
Humpty Sharma ki Dulhaniya
This was a tribute to the greatest Bollywood romance – DDLJ. It hit all our sweet spots and reminded us of the best scenes of the original classic.
Queen
Queen was a story of a girl’s journey that she begins in order to get over her broken relationship. Her adventures help her gain confidence and find self-actualization. And we just love that Queen broke the cliché of a girl needing a guy to have a happy ending.
Mardaani
This movie portrayed the strength and resilience of women and Rani Mukerjee made an impact on the audience and the film was in one word – awe-inspiring. Goosebumps.
Hawaa Hawaai
It was a heart-warming story of a young boy’s dreams and the teacher that gives his all to help the boy achieve them. Hats off to Saqib Saleem and Partho Gupte.

Anil Kapoor’s thrilling TV series captivated us all as we diligently left all our work to sit and watch every episode. It was a breath of fresh air for all the people who are too bored by the saas-bahu dramas on Indian television.
